Who we are and what matters to us

CommunitiesBanner.png

We are people who experience God’s love in Jesus and who want to live for Him so others experience His love and so His kingdom comes.

We believe that God is a community of eternal love — Father, Son and Spirit, that in Jesus Christ He has brought us into relationship with Him, and that the Spirit works in us to gather us into communities of love, to change us to be like Jesus, and to empower us to serve Him in this world.

Communities of Jesus’ followers

So a key value in Lifepoint is for everyone to be part of a community with others who know one another, love one another, pray for one another, help one another to live as followers of Jesus in our everyday lives, and who love people who don’t know Jesus. We encourage shared practices (see below) to help us experience the Holy Spirit leading us and working through us.

Another key value is that we are all “sent” (John 20.19b–22) in the power of the Spirit. In other words we are all “on mission” to see God’s purposes done in the world — with the people around us in our lives and city and across the world in partnership with other followers of Jesus in specific countries the Lord has connected us with — see Lifepoint Mission.

Church gathered, and sent

When we gather as a whole church on Sundays we come together as communities of followers to celebrate what God is doing among us, to meet with Him and worship Him together. We come expecting the Holy Spirit to meet with us and to work among us. As we gather we value:

  • connecting with one another,
  • different people from across the church contributing to our worship,
  • telling the Story of God (as given in the Bible) and the stories of God at work in our lives.

We are sent out from our gathered worship grateful for God’s presence and knowing that we share our lives through the week with others who want to follow Jesus too.

We have identified some shared practices, drawn from the life of Jesus, which help us in following Him. (For fuller explanation see Lifepoint Shared Practices). They use the word BLESS’M:

Bless others
Listen to God
Eat with others
Submit to Scripture
Serve God’s purposes, share God’s love
include a practice important for you
Meet frequently with the same followers of Jesus to support one another in following Him
