About Murray and Shona

Murray and Shona Shearer (along with Grace) joined the Manila team of Servants to Asia’s urban poor in the Philippines in mid-December 2006. They are spending their first two-year term adjusting to life in a Manila squatter community, learning to speak Tagalog.

Alongside this they are engaged in a process with Servants personnel discerning where they will fit into the ongoing work long-term.

Servants’ work is guided by a Christian ethos valuing servant hood, living simply, operating in teams, living and working alongside local people and caring for the whole person and their environment.

Servants’ fieldworkers live among the urban poor of Manila and seek to participate with them in the transformation of their individual lives and wider communities.

Collectively the Filipino workers, along with Servants personnel, make up “The Dream Team”—an informal network of people seeking to advance God’s kingdom among the urban poor of Manila.
